Product Description
This is the NEW Sirius® Navigator IMU - i2c - for MultiWiicopters - enables multiCopter electronic engineers (EE's) or DIY capable soldering RC Pilots to upgrade a PARIS V4 Classic board to a full house board.
Features of Sirius® Navigator IMU
- Sirius® optimised specifically for MultiWiiCopter software using all the default device hardware addresses - simply activete the code for the device to use it - see below
- Uses the latest Invensense IDG3200 Gyro 16 bit resolution - The proven Bosch BMA180 Accelerometer - the Proven Bosch BMP085 Barometer - The Honeywell HMC 5883L Mag Compass
- Full 2.0mm board to increase the board weight/inertia to reduce vibration & increase isolation and improve handling on a multi-engine aircraft specifically. This Vibration inertia / isolation is a major design feature for aviation sensors. completely surpasses thinner boards and sensors mounted to the motherboard - by design.
- Designed to be the same small footprint as a Nintendo Wii MP+ for stacking or upgrading - replacing.
- No jumpers or device level programming required
- Works with or without an LLC if the hardware pullups are ACTIVATED (solder pad) on a PARIS v3 or PARIS v4 board itself. there are no jumpers or solder pads on the Sirius®
- Runs at either 100Khz or 400Khz Fast mode if preferred
- Can be combined with a MP+ and selected in software
Requires
- 3.3v Vcc - all PARIS board have a 3.3v IC - so simply connect Vcc ot 3.3v
- 3.3v-2.0v i2C data - SCL and SDa lines - Make sure you use pullups when connecting to a MP+ board. This is very easy on the PARIS v4 naked board - simply solder closed the jumper pad on the back of the PARIS to active the LV i2C - DO NOT connect directly to 5v SCL SCA lines coming from the ProMini chip.
- RoHS lead free - GREEN PRODUCT
- Designed and fully flight tested by experienced MultiwiiCopter pilots - in house - be aware that other competitors IMU are designed by NON-RC persons with no direct aviation RC experience.
- Blue omni directional power LED
- BARO is a barometric instrument and is designed for high altutude hover ops - A baro is not an ultrasonic distance to ground measuring device. All barometric instrument - even those in an BOEING airliner have barometric errors - However this instrument is amazing good because it has been combined in v1.8 software with the Z (g) axis of the ACC and works very well. Must be located away from prop airflow - wind or other airflow - and static variation of air pressure waves from props - do not cover the hole with tape or foam.
- MAG - The MAG needs to be calibrated in the GUI Java App. After pressing Calibrate MAG - you have 30 secs to rotate the board - in all X Y and Z axis at least one 360° turn - this allows the dip errors of the earths magnetic field to be logged against the ACC senors for tilt. Please understand the inherent errors in all magnetic sensors - Magnetic varition - Locally magnetic deviation by Ferric metal in proximity etc.
- Keep the connecting wires long and curved so as to NOT transfer any vibration to the sensor board
- Manufactured by us. Not available on any other website. Product design copyright © MultiWiicopter.com with all right reserved.
Includes
- 1 x Sirius® Navigator IMU board as shown in photos top right
- Four colour coded wires
- two pieces of carefully sized and controlled dampening - tape - Do not add additional tape - less is more.
Software
Runs on i2C code
For Multiwiicopter Ops - alter your 1.8 code as per the image below -
Software
Multiwiicopter software is GNU3 and open source. The software is written by un-paid coders who have our highest respect :). Bear in mind the software is written by a team of contributors and combined/edited by AlexinParis. Version 1.7dev0725 and v1.8 all work with Sirius® - Read the RCGroups thread to get the latest minute by minute developments and bug reports.

Tips
-
Follow the building guide carefully - allow at least three days to complete the project. Measure twice - cut once.
-
MultiWiiCopters are nearly twice as efficient as a RC Helicopter providing the props are matched to the ESC and engines.
-
6 x 10amps is 60amps continuous power (72amps peak if your 40C lipo can cope) this is massive on 4S -
your HEX will be climbing like a interception rocket - You do NOT need 18Amp ESCs - it's a common mistake
with multi engine ops - especially 6 engines to go past the humble 10Amp Turnigy ESC - these things are
perfect - in the hover the ESC is running at about 3.5amps on a HEX. You don't need the extra weight of a HEX.
-
Recommended props are - 4S 9050 Triples with 65g 775kv CarbonBird motors available on this site to
give a large amount of slow moving downwash. In the hover the throttle should be 1/3 to 1/4 maximum. The HEX
is very powerful
-
Use a magnetic-balancer to balance all props statically;
then run them individually to check they are centred true and the tipshave the same path; any vibration will reduce
the effectiveness of the Wii gyro or anyother gyro.
-
Never screw/glue or bolt the Wii Motion+ to the board - use good quality FOAM TAPE. Make sure the wires to the WM+
are soft, curved and not tight.
-
For Aerial Photography do not use an ESC to power the Vcc line. Use a seprate independant
switching BEC and solder the Vcc and GND lines to the
board. Select 5v. Note the MCP1825S has a maximum Vcc of 6v.
-
Keep your PROPS OFF -
not installed - until you are fully conversant/understand in full the functions of your Tx in full including
TRAV (end Points), the arm and disarm procedures - realise that for a noob skiping or out-of-order set-up
steps or moving sticks, or even static - PROPS may start at
anytime without warning. Never install props prior to calibration of the ESC and testing
the gyro orientation, and arm/disarm testing of the board - YOU are responsible - make sure your actions
and your Copter is safe - remove the prop -remove the risk.
-
Always maiden on default PIDs' - If the copter is not almost perfect on default PID's then DO NOT go straight to
altering the PID's! MultiwiiCopters require good quality ESCs such as HobbyWing® or turnigy Plush® (Not
SuperSimple) then do full calibrations of all the ESCs, the correct timing set/programmed into the ESCs and
lastly good quality wiring and soldering (not short 3.5mm press fit connectors) -
Use FLUX PASTE to complete all soldered wires.
Safety in Australian Skies
- Keep more than 30m from persons, choose an empty sports field for your first flights
- Do not fly near pets, houses or cars
- Never fly within 3nm of an airfield or above 400ft
-
Never install your props until after the Multicopter is fully tested and 100% correct without props. Engines can start
suddenly and without warning IF YOU FAIL to understand how they work or skip any steps.
- Set your Tx/Rx binding to low throttle 1/4 position so that if the link is lost the copter will descend slowly.
-
Always keep your Copter in line of sight for one pilot ops - FPV is only legal in AU with a buddy on a buddybox -
2 person FPV is 100% legal using the buddybox system below 400'. See CASA Part 101 Regs
-
RC Flying is a privilege - please enjoy it. Don't show off and don't get over confident
-
Home movies are fine, but in Australia professional paid photography or videos from an RC aircraft requires
CASA Part 101 compliance, including exams and approved ops manuals and pilot competency tests by CASA official
which will cost several thousand up front.
