This is the 3rd gen v3 Reconn (reconnaissance drone) that all the Pro-Pilots rave about for FPV stealth Aerial PHOTOGRAPHY - Reconn worlds FIRST ever purpose-built FPV Travel 480mm Ø Quad and pre-dates TBS - With a "Look" that is unique from all those generic white plastic drones - Yes we have had this airframe in the hands of our Pro-Pilots under going real-world event filming - its been improved for v3 and features smooth handling, brushless gimbal ready and typical 19 min flight times.
(above) FilmMaker GLambert7777 travelled to the Argentia-Brazil border Iguazu Falls - with his Scarab Reconnin his backpack and while all the other photographers stood on the ground - GLambert7777 recruited a few Spotters - trained them on location - and flew his Reconn out tru the tree canopy on this high-Risk-high-Gain mission. In describing the flight Greg recalls " the wind buffeted me and the sound roared to the point I could hear nothing from the Scarab Reconn" and "So I relied on my spotter a lot - I felt confident as the live vision was so stable from the Scarab itself" Note: Props do not appear in the Video if the GoPro mount ≥ 115mm is used (this movie was shot on a shortened GoPromount)
Requires prop balancing - Props and motors can be balanced to run silky smooth by the owner - this is an important skill you must learn - its easy - but takes 3-10 mins per prop to do well - its a matter of adding blade tape to balance the props when running at speed - trial and error process called dynamic balancing - props are spun up and balanced while turning/spinning. Pilots who say they did not balance their props are just short changing themselves - The entire IMU will fly better and the bearings will last longer when everything is balanced dynamicaly - Use the Forums and YouTube to search for Prop balancing videos. AP requires very smooth props for smooth video.
the above video shows "mounting options" for those who choose the new PARIS AIR autopilot
When using the NAZA lite the 5.0v is provided by the NAZA PMU so immediately after calibration the LEARNING CURVE of all 4 ESC and also setting the programming with the included program card - THEN - be sure to REMOVE/cut the center RED wires on ALL 4 of the ESC control leads
Set NAZA motor idle speed to Medium or medium high
The NAZA can be mounted with VELCRO on top of the Andromeda ; or optionally mount under the Carbon protective cover in a under-slung backet (optional mount is included)
Be SUre to use the METAL halves on the boom holders on the LOWER side plate - as the landing gear are attached by a single M3*12 bolt & penny washer, AFTER the drone is finished - Mount the landing gear LAST, using this single bolt system.
Here is one customers build, an 8 Part how-to-build Reconnv3 Guide by one expert level Scarab pilot who installed a PARIS v5 autopilot - - his ideas are his own and MWC accepts there are MANY ways to build the RECONN- its worth a watch and then decide how you want yours to be - for the NAZA install see the NAZA pages on this SITE - thks
