Question - Why fly the older Canon 5D Mk II ? We all know the risk of drone crashes so why risk your newest Mk 4 ! the reality of drone ops is the inevitable Collision with Trees/Terrain/Buildings and flat-battery crashes happen way more than people admit and the camera/gimbal takes the force of the crash badly - so the answer is less Cost vs risk vs gain equation = dji 5D mk II Zenmuse Z15 + a Canon 5D MkII are very affordable full frame cameras in the used camera market and yet offers 21.1 sharp megapixels (5,616 × 3,744 pixels) perfect for Commercial grade aerials - and can be flown safely with S1000.

Question - Why is it limited to one lens ?  - the gimbal is precisely balanced to one lens weight 24mm ƒ2.8 - it is a very light lens (281grams)  - heavier fast lenses are not appropriate for aerial cameras as the cameras ability to move freely in 3 dimensions without restriction is it's true power.  When stopped down to ƒ5.6 and using a FULL frame camera like the 5DII to inertial mass is still low enough to get incrediably stable and sharp AERIAL results in the hands of a Pro-drone operator witha smooth ship - all perfectly setup from experience.

Question - I am nervous to fly my 5DMKII/III - I dont want to risk it - Will it be damaged in a crash - how can i reduce rsk?  Yes no need to risk a Mk 3 in the air - fly an older MK 2 !  Crashes are related to low experienced pilots - so it comes back to pilot skills, setup and training in advance -   The 5D MkII/III have a unique look and if you are shooting all your ground shots with this camera then switch over to a cheaper camera for aerials the film "look" is going to change thereby downgrading your film.   We would say improve your drone reliability factor from daily and disciplined flying experience - get professional and dont treat it as once a month un-prepared thing.  Then when you are flying with no incidents or accidents - then move to this 3 axis 5D level - 

 

WARNING gimbals MUST be perfectly balanced in 3 axis 100% at the time when powered up - YOU must check this every Pre-Flight - Failure to check balance, adding alternate lenses, lens hoods or jamming motors can lead to motor burn out and jitter and is NOT covered by dji warranty

Question - Can this be operate in marine/beach conditions?  No - Sand ingress to the gimbal or salt laden air will damage the gimbal - 

  1. Do not take-off and land in beach sand, dust or dirt - all operations should me from grass or a purpose use mat to prevent dust ingress to the gimbal - DJI have advised they do not cover damage caused by incorrect use, in the form of dusty take off and landing is at your own risk and NOT covered by warranty
  2. Do not operate in corrosive salt laden air or marine environments which can cause accelerated corrosion without doing maintenance to remove and protect from salt - if the gimbal is exposed to salt the user must protect all connectors and PCB with INOX - Users failing to conduct regular maintenance with INOX (or similar sprays) will experience corrosion in marine environments and this is NOT covered by warranty as salt is corrosive .
