dji A2 ProPlus flight controller Australia - with GPS PRO PLUS +    - our STOCK is in AU Australia (see above status) - A2 is a multicopter Autopilot for professionals and gives amazing results  - it has been optimised for the Futaba 14SG flight radio control -  it is NOT designed for beginners or low-time wanna-be-pilots - you cannot buy experience  - this controller is specifically for experienced PILOTs of drones who have worked their way up the ranks 1kg, 2kg , 4kg , 7kg drones - you must be proficient at balancing motors, balancing props and removing vibration as a core part of being a Pro-level-drone-pilot   - Experience has shown that beginners/cashed up Photo-creatives buying this autopilot as a short-cut and not running SMOOTH copter just ends in a flip/crash because those people do not posses the skills to set their balance of dynamics (motors and props)  up correctly, or don't understand it or to fail to set-up large drones resonance protection c of g correctly - large drones have a lower LPF and lower resonance frequency - so fair warning.  Works best with active braking ESc like the CarbonBird 22a here

The significant improved function of the A2 is it's ability to hold accurate position HOVER-HOLD without needing an open field (Please note ; do NOT fly around in GPS mode - GPS mode is for hovering, not flying - Fly in Atti mode or Manual mode) - so Hover Hold in in winds and tight areas where partial occlusion of Sats/GPS may be blocked by buildings is improved - However it does have a noticeable more advanced pro feel - again not for noobs. It's also offering an on-board DJI compatible Rx for Futaba or JR Spektrum Rx if you want to use it?  or if your preferring to trust your existing existing Futaba or FrSky RC Rx(which is what we prefer) , then use of that Taranis or Futaba Rx is also possible (i.e. non dji Rx input is  possible)- it is  compatible with IOSDMkII (WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND YOU FLY A2 with iOSD Mk II) , - typically controls a large Zenmuse Z15  and will also work with our Alexmos gimbal controllers - Waypoints are not included at this  but  hare included if you purchase a dji datalink -  software is now available for Mac OSX Assistant / Navigation (~ Jan 2014)

MultiWiiCopter.com team - Pro tips -> don't stooge around in GPS mode - Fly in ATTi mode - switch to GPS when you need it - You must mount the IMU free from harmonics and resonance ! Large multicopters have lower frequency resonance and you must mount the IMU in a location free from resonance - Also , additionally, ensure the MOTORS DO NOT RUN AT THE SAME SPEED - i.e. load the weight away from the centre so each motor carries a different operating SPEED or RPM. 

if you are a noob consider get experience on a Caron Airframe copter using the NAZAv2 for 12 months, first.  Again do NOT stooge around in GPS mode ! We recommend to Fly in Atti mode and when/if you need GPS hover then stop and activate GPS mode for hovering - then when ready to move off and fly around - do so in ATTi mode - !

Make sure when updating - that you update ALL components - in the software wizard clip on each module - then update that module !!!! IMPORTANT - do not forget to update the GPS PRO module for example !!!

our Pros

  1. For experienced pilots capable of manual control of a multicopter the A2 feels much better than any other dji autopilot in Atti and Manual modes
  2. The metal CNC cases are more appropriate for the cost
  3. it is the only controller that uses all 14 channels of a pro-radio fully via SBus
  4. The Banked turn modes and Continuous cruise speed options are very high end
  5. POI orbits at set distances are perfect

our Cons

  1. The in-built clone receiver is a waste ( we are not about to push aside our trusted Receivers like the Futaba 7008SB or the FrSky Taranis X8R)  - this valuable space should have been used to build-in the iODMkII instead- which still has to be purchased as a separate item :(
  2. The short antenna are totally out of place on large carbon aircraft and must be replaced with much longer antenna to be routed clear of any CF - sold here 
  3. The lack of an oLED text plain language Status Screen and fault reporting system, at this price point is a glaring omission - we would expect a full blown oLED data display for system status - including warning of immanent IMU problems like vibration - and even the frequency of the vibration to help eliminate a prop or motor issue using the IMU data
  4. Plugs & Wires - dji is still using the big bulky and heavy plugs/connectors system - every build looks like 2011 still - the wires to the GPs are not shielded by co-ax - so routing has to be very carefully done to ensure a low signal to noise in the GPs -  time for this to be improved/miniaturised and made more reliable with locks
  5. We are not impressed to see dji dumbing down a Pro-Auto Pilot - its time to give "advanced" control of the LowPassFilter settings to skilled users and discontinue the auto-sensing LPF which can be fooled 
  6. The system should have dual independent auto switch uBECs - capable of withstanding 1-2sec power outages - needs more redundancy at this price
  7. The system PMU should also produce 12v for FPV cameras - again iOSDMKII should be included - not the Rx
  8. Needs a new Pro-mode which is a combination of Atti and Full manual - near the centre of the Cyclic stick it should be atti - but when moved past 50% deflection - should become full manual mode including releasing the motor control to the pilot (disconnection of the BARO as well)

GPS-COMPASS PRO MODULE The GPS receiver of the A2 GPS-Compass Pro Module is equipped with a new high gain and high performance right-handed circular polarised (RHCP) antenna, the low noise anti-interference front-end RF design and the optimised localisation algorithm, which provides the GPS Pro with stronger anti-interference performance, a stronger ability to capture satellite signals and a more accurate position hold calculating ability. All these features have enhanced its position locking capability.

BUILT-IN 2.4GHZ 16ch RECEIVER- The A2 has a built-in 2.4Ghz Radio technology DESST receiver system (the newest DJI Enhanced Spread Spectrum Technology), which supports the Futaba FASST series of transmitters. It can support 16 channels. Futaba transmitter users can use the system without any external receiver, which has greatly simplified the complexity of the system and improved the security of the remote control system.

SUPPORT FOR EXTERNAL RECEIVERS - A2 system has two reserved JR and SPEKTRUM satellite receiver ports, which support JR and SPEKTRUM satellite receivers. It currently supports SPEKTRUM DX6I, DX8 transmitters, other JR or SPEKTRUM series will be supported in the future.The system supports external receivers including the Futaba S-Bus receiver, PPM receiver.

DUAL CAN-BUS SYSTEM - The A2 system has a dual CAN-Bus design, make sure to connect everything to the CAN2 bus - Use a canbus hub if necessary

MORE OUTPUT INTERFACES - The A2 is equipped with a minimum of twelve output channels, users can easily use it to control an Oct-rotor, and the other four channels can be used as a general output interface, for example, to control the DJI retractable landing gear on S800 EVO, to control Gimbal or camera switch, etc.

PRECISE POSITION HOLD & WIND RESISTANCE - With the new generation GPS Pro/CompassModule and the hardware upgraded IMU module, the A2 has an optimised inertial navigation algorithm, which ensures the system can get a more reliable and accurate position and attitude estimate. The aircraft which is equipped with A2 will have very good performance in position hold even in a semi-closed environment, such as between buildings, it also has excellent hovering performance. At the same time, with the optimised algorithm of inertial navigation and the algorithm of wind resistance, the Wind Resistance performance of A2 is also improved, and the multi-rotor can have position and altitude locked accurately even in windy conditions.

ACCURACY AND INTUITIVE FEEL - With the A2, flying a multi-rotor will be as easy as driving a car. The pilot is released from the stress of controlling the multi-rotor and able to pay more attention to other tasks, instead of focusing on flying.

ONLINE FIRMWARE UPDATES - Different from other DJI flight controllers, the A2 offers a comprehensive online firmware upgrade ability: the Controller, IMU and GPS Pro, Receiver and Bluetooth LED indicator can be upgraded online through the assistant software separately. 9 TYPES OF MULTI-ROTOR AND A CUSTOMISED MOTOR MIXER - The A2 supports 9 types of traditional motor mixer:

It’s a UAS that’s targeted at commercial and industrial multi-rotor platforms with simple configuration, easy installation and stable performance. It also supports customised motor mixing, which greatly meets the demands of particular users.

MORE FLEXIBLE INPUT CHANNEL CONFIGURATION - A2 flight control system supports a more flexible input channel configuration function; the transmitter channel can be mapped flexibly to meet the needs of various users.

MULTIPLE FLIGHT CONTROL MODES/ INTELLIGENT SWITCHING - It offers three types of control modes: GPS Mode (with GPS module), Atti. Mode, Manual Mode. The pilot can switch between the three modes to achieve different flight characteristics. The Flight controller can also adjust automatically within the changing flight environment and intelligently switch between GPS Mode and Atti. Mode to make sure the flight is safe. In manual mode position the operator can choose between manual and attitude. It also supports an RTH Switch from the Transmitter.

POWER MANAGEMENT UNIT - The power management unit (PMU) is designed for the A2 to solve the high power consumption. It supplies power for the A2 system, for voltage detection and alarming. It contains two power outputs for the entire A2 system and receiver separately, a battery voltage monitor, and two CAN-Bus interfaces. In order to prevent your multi-rotor from crashing or other harmful consequences caused by low battery voltage, we have designed two levels of low voltage protection with selectable LED indications, Go Home and Landing functionality.

ENHANCED FAIL-SAFE AND AUTO GO HOME/LANDING - When signal is lost, the system will trigger failsafe, you can choose either hovering or Auto Go Home/Landing. In addition, the A2 now has a new function of RTH switch from transmitter. There is no need to turn into failsafe.

MULTI-ROTOR ONE-MOTOR FAIL PROTECTION - This function means that when the aircraft is in attitude or GPS attitude mode, and one of the motors stops, the aircraft will retain good attitude and rotate around the frame arm with the stopped motor. In this condition, the aircraft is still under control and returns home safely and highly reducing the risk of a crash.

INTELLIGENT ORIENTATION CONTROL (IOC) - Usually, the forward direction of a flying multi-rotor is the same as the nose direction. By using Intelligent Orientation Control (IOC), wherever the nose points, the forward direction has nothing to do with nose direction:

In course lock flying, the forward direction is the same as a recorded nose direction. See the following figures (Mode 2):

In home lock flying, the forward direction is the same as the direction from home point to the multi-rotor. See the following figures (Mode 2):

POINT OF INTEREST (POI) - A2 has a POI function: Point of Interest. When the GPS signal is good, users can record the current position of the aircraft as a point of interest by a preset switch on the remote controller. The aircraft can achieve a circling flight around the point of interest with the nose pointing at the POI in an area of 5 meters to 500 meters radius, when the roll command is given. This function is easy to set and simple to operate, it is suitable for all-round shooting of a fixed scenic spot.

BLUETOOTH MODULE AND NEW ASSISTANT SOFTWARE FOR SMARTPHONES - The A2 provides assistant software for iPhone4s, iPhone5, iPad3, iPad4, iPad Mini, iPod5. You can do parameter adjustments at any time on your mobile devices, using only the standard LED indicator with a built-in Bluetooth module that makes it easier and convenient. It uses low power Bluetooth to minimise the power consumption of your mobile devices. It is easy to use and will automatically save your last connection data. The password mechanism ensures your link is safe. Parameters can be automatically synchronised to the Cloud Server and can be restored immediately when you change your mobile devices.

USER-FRIENDLY ASSISTANT SOFTWARE - The user interface of the assistant software has been comprehensively updated and brings you a new interaction experience. The logical design makes your channel configuration and parameter settings more simple and convenient.

50 WAYPOINTS GROUND STATION CONTROL SYSTEM (AVAILABLE SOON) - The A2 is equipped with 50 Waypoints Ground Station and it also supports iOS mobile devices (Bluetooth 4.0 or above). With the reliable communication and simple operation, it is easy for you to control your aircraft. It also contains such ground control functions as real-time flight monitoring and flight status notification, joystick control with touch, one key takeoff, preset flight route and click & go.

OTHER USEFUL FUNCTIONS - In addition to the above functionalities the A2 also has other useful functions:

Built-in 2-axis Gimbal Stabilisation: The gimbal stabilisation module is compatible with almost all 2-axis gimbal systems. The system will adjust the gimbal and camera according to the attitude of the aircraft after setting the parameters for the first time. It stabilises the camera and improves the quality of aerial photography.
Home Point Indicating: the system will indicate the home point location with LED blinking to avoid the wrong home point recording, and ensures that the RTH function operates as expected.
Tail-in RTH: it allows the users to easily view the LED indicator and have a better control over the aircraft.
Compass Error Alarming: when the compass encounters interference sources, the LED will blink to warn you.

ACCESSORIES SUPPORTED - The A2 is perfectly matched to the iOSD and the ZENMUSE Z15 series gimbals, which provides the most comprehensive performance for the professional users.

 

The MultiWiicopter team commandments for S900/s1000 and A2 - We wrote this list from hands-on experience - this is not some cheap cut-n-paste - please read and note it well.  If you want one sure way to crash your aircraft then ignore what we are recommending below.
  1. Balance all Motors - dynamic
  2. Balance all Props - static on a prop balancer and also dynamic by running them to check vibration and eliminate it
  3. Check all Prop adapter collets and shafts are true - not bent - check each prop & motor combos are balanced and vibration free when running
  4. Mount all sensors on gel or gel foam tape - always - we recommend PU Gel or high end Helicopter mounting tape for the IMU - do not use the dji tape supplied - we don't
  5. Mount all GPS/MAG pods well away from all RMI ESC and the main LiPo - we built a tail section for our s800 for this - or use the DJI lollypop stick - but make sure it not blurred - i.e. vibrating
  6. Solder all wires with solder flux paste amtech 223 - don't use cored solder or weak soldering irons - we use a FAST 80w iron with a very large copper - the s900/z15 pulls ±32amps in hover at 25v  - we used XT60 (60 amp rating) but we take care to size them to make sure they are tight (not the plastic - the pins) - make sure the soldering is perfect either way by using flux paste and a really big (fast) iron head. XT60 can handle short burst of high temp but not long slow heat from small irons. 
  7. Set all failsafe channels and test them LIVE to check the stability of the RC signal - we set up a mix, to shift the modes channel to failsafe - with a switch
  8. Do a proper RC range check of the RC radio with all FPV gear powered on - don't get lazy and skip this check - its very important
  9. Test all FPV gear at 200m on the ground - establish which of the 8 freq. is the strongest at long range - Do not mount FPV antenna near RC in or near carbon
  10. Check all push connectors are firm - loose or soft connection cause engine/esc failure - for S900 and RC connectors use contact-X on all push on RC connectors - Esp in coastal zones
  11. Check all data line are 100% secure - tied but not pulling - For dji PCB pins - check none are loose or wiggling
  12. Check all props for fatigue cracks or stress fractures
  13. Do a pull test on all Props before every flight to check security - for s800 check the props tip-plane-path from the side
  14. Do post flight temp checks on all ESCs and all motors
  15. Telemetry Monitor every cell of the LiPo in flight with Quanum or similar - do not rely on total voltage alone
  16. Route all data lines well away from ESCs - for ESC this is easy as the ESC are under the motors
  17. Operate the CPU/IMU on a dedicated 3S DC bus for large multicopters - this isolates DC spikes from motors from effecting the CPU
  18. Check all wires for airframe shorting - dull down any sharp edges on carbon with a diamond file - pinched wires, cut or chaffed wires will cause major issues - check 
  19. Check the airframe is grounded to prevent static entering data lines - props create static - it has go somewhere
  20. Separate all RC receiver antenna wires by 90° and keep away from carbon structures - don't tape antenna near carbon landing gear
  21. For all push connectors - i.e. s900 booms or all RC plugs - use Inox or Corrosion-X or Deoxit Gold similar sprays to prevent corrosion - less is more - blow away excess with air gun nozzle
  22. Ground your aircraft at the slightest hint of abnormal ops of any component, motor hesitation or any other sign of human error or hanger rash
  23. Remove all risk - if you fly over a crowd of people the risk is falling - so don't fly over crowds or people or the ocean -   Wear safety glasses - props can cut
  24. Program and test GPS return to home - Wookm has no collision avoidance - be sure to set 50% throttle immediately it start to RTH - be 100% familiar with GPS over ride procedures and fly on MANUAL if req'd
  25. Never assume - problems come in groups - its never just one thing, if you find a problem - look again.  Make sure for Hexii that you understand IOC engine failure procedures
  26. Use loctite - Make sure the entire airframe is 100% rigid and secure - vibration can loosen flight critical parts
  27. Use a checklist and stick to it - all Pro-pilots use checklists - look for problems - Especially vibration - DO an IDLE vibration check before take off !  on every flight !
  28. Make 100% sure you ALWAYS see the LED signals - this is vital for "White Sparking" observations - if you ignore White sparking warnings via the LED  - you will suffer consequences
  29. Calibrate all sensors.  The GPS pod also contains a delicate MAG Compass - calibrate it far away from metal - all metal - including cars and houses or cell phones etc.
  30. Weigh your Aircraft - use different GAINS for different weights - carry a scale - check the weight.  Be aware that over-amplified gains will lead to problems.  
  31. Carry spare parts - that way if you have a problem - and are under the hammer to get the flight done - you can safely install the spare part first in minutes - then fly.
  32. As the pilot in command EVERYTHING is your fault - if anything goes wrong - YOU as the Captain are responsible afterward.  Posting up your sad story on a forum wont change anything "after" a crash.
