Product Description

QuadOcta ships with V2 boom holders and v2 Engine Locks

The worlds strongest creature is the Scarab beetle, thought by the Egyptians to have rolled the sun across the sky.  SCARAB Quad/OCTA is a big 175mm carbon airframe for maximum rigidity and smooth video!!  We are commercial photographers / FPVpilots ourselves and we live to make our airframes efficient and stable for photography. We live for soft sunlight and beautiful video images.  4 Engine Multicopters have massive lifting power even with 4x10Amp ESCs - thats 48amps at WOT on 4S - 800w !  Aircraft flies/hovers normally at 330watts - Deck drill holes are 45mm and will fit MikroKopter electronics.  Full 100% carbon - only 495grams airframe!..

the new Carbon Quad/Octa 175mm SCARAB 12 Aerial Photography Airframe.  This RCPilot kit airframe Full Carbon version, and it requires assembly and advanced model making skills - excludes electronics and engines.  Has the properties of a strong CENTRAL CORE - with three decks - PARIS electronic can be mounted on a TOP-DECK - slender booms & light weight mounts have been designed to reduce airflow drag and tested to improve stability.  Central to the design is the idea that it has to be strong but light weight ; aerodynamically clean and efficient with low drag under the propeller wash zone ; Use of the common 12mm helicopter tailboom parts to provide a cheap replaceable crumple zone in the event of a crash ; that part being quickly replaced at the flying site (or simply replaced with a spare boom-pod without needing a full rebuild or a soldering iron at the flying site).  For this reason we supply our own carefully selected electrical plugs with this kit.  We recommend 20AWG silicon wire as per our Gear-list page/material section.  20AWG is the perfect weight and current handling wire.  The booms can be rotated/offset by small increments to provide positive-offset-thrust lines rather than the poor yaw control associated with rectangular boom frames.  This is critical for Aerial photography where multicopter have good stability but slow yaw corrections.

Our aim is promote up and coming young film makers to use Multicopters to challenge the limits of the existing film industry

  3. 4 removable 12mm tubular Aluminium booms 230mm (included)
  4. Pre-determined crumple zones - the cheapest part - the common helicopter 12mm Carbon booms.  Keeps the engines and the core from absorbing the impact forces - should that ever be necessary.

  7. Positive yaw control.  The Tail rotor tilt mechanism is pre-built in by being able to tilt the motors in minor increments - simply loosent he boom and then tighten it  - no servos
  8. Wires can installed internally or externally.
  9. Simple strong and light weight CF Carbon Firbe engine mounts (included)
  10. Quad/Octa can be crossgraded to OCTiiKopta by adding 4 booms/boomholders for a total of 8 engines

Tips

  • Follow the building guide carefully - allow at least three days to complete the project. Measure twice - cut once.
  • MultiWiiCopters are nearly twice as efficient as a RC Helicopter providing the props are matched to the ESC and engines.
  • 6 x 10amps is 60amps continuous power (72amps peak if your 40C lipo can cope) this is massive on 4S - your HEX will be climbing like a interception rocket - You do NOT need 18Amp ESCs - it's a common mistake with multi engine ops - especially 6 engines to go past the humble 10Amp Turnigy ESC - these things are perfect - in the hover the ESC is running at about 3.5amps on a HEX. You don't need the extra weight of a HEX.
  • Recommended props are - 4S 9050 Triples with 65g 775kv CarbonBird motors available on this site to give a large amount of slow moving downwash. In the hover the throttle should be 1/3 to 1/4 maximum. The HEX is very powerful
  • Use a magnetic-balancer to balance all props statically; then run them individually to check they are centred true and the tipshave the same path; any vibration will reduce the effectiveness of the Wii gyro or anyother gyro.
  • Never screw/glue or bolt the Wii Motion+ to the board - use good quality FOAM TAPE. Make sure the wires to the WM+ are soft, curved and not tight.
  • For Aerial Photography do not use an ESC to power the Vcc line.  Use a seprate independant switching BEC and solder the Vcc and GND lines to the board. Select 5v.  Note the MCP1825S has a maximum Vcc of 6v.
  • Keep your PROPS OFF - not installed - until you are fully conversant/understand in full the functions of your Tx in full including TRAV (end Points), the arm and disarm procedures -  realise that for a noob skiping or out-of-order set-up steps or moving sticks, or even static -  PROPS may start at anytime without warning.  Never install props prior to calibration of the ESC and testing the gyro orientation, and arm/disarm testing of the board - YOU are responsible - make sure your actions and your Copter is safe - remove the prop -remove the risk.
  • Always maiden on default PIDs' - If the copter is not almost perfect on default PID's then DO NOT go straight to altering the PID's!  MultiwiiCopters require good quality ESCs such as HobbyWing® or turnigy Plush® (Not SuperSimple) then do full calibrations of all the ESCs, the correct timing set/programmed into the ESCs and lastly good quality wiring and soldering (not short 3.5mm press fit connectors) - Use FLUX PASTE to complete all soldered wires.

Safety in Australian Skies

  • Keep more than 30m from persons, choose an empty sports field for your first flights
  • Do not fly near pets, houses or cars
  • Never fly within 3nm of an airfield or above 400ft
  • Never install your props until after the Multicopter is fully tested and 100% correct without props. Engines can start suddenly and without warning IF YOU FAIL to understand how they work or skip any steps.
  • Set your Tx/Rx binding to low throttle 1/4 position so that if the link is lost the copter will descend slowly.
  • Always keep your Copter in line of sight for one pilot ops - FPV is only legal in AU with a buddy on a buddybox - 2 person FPV is 100% legal using the buddybox system below 400'.  See CASA Part 101 Regs
  • RC Flying is a privilege - please enjoy it.  Don't show off and don't get over confident
  • Home movies are fine, but in Australia professional paid photography or videos from an RC aircraft requires CASA Part 101 compliance, including exams and approved ops manuals and pilot competency tests by CASA official which will cost several thousand up front.
