Product Description

sunlight LED Ring + RGB LEDs +12v FPV cam reg + oLED 7 lines display + PDB = Andromeda is the nearest galaxy to earth M31 and just the idea of it twists the dark matter in your photographic mind.  so, Why did we at MWC AU make this Andromeda LED orientation device? OK - Flying a multicopter Line of sight LOS is not easy becuse it can look same same from any angle - Where is the front of my multicopter?? .... in a few seconds orientation of the front of the multicopter can be lost resulting in a crash as the pilot panics. To solve this we use bright leds arranged in a cricle -  By using these ultra bright LEDs you the pilot can orientate in full sunlight - RED for rear - Blue for the front and both sides have white (helps illuminate the ground in night flying)

Features

With PARIS a GND TRIGGER (single earth wire) and triggers all the 20 ultrabright LEDs for arm and other coded signals only the pilot will understand.  Because we fly both 4S 16v and also 3S sometimes (Stealth Scarab) we made sure it works on both 4S and 3S.  Connect the GND Trigger pin to the GND trigger pin on PARIs v4 or v5 (or the GND trigger wires of PARIS AIR) - NOT used for NAZA - to use LEDs with a NAZA you have to manually solder closed the LED jumper pads - see photos above.

 NOTE 5Jun14 : a bug was reported in the code by a user PARISv5/Andromeda v3r3 which produced i2c errors -  Jun 11 update - It seems it is not a code bug, but a cable issue on one report ( cable pins/wires crossed over) and a "connected i2c cable to to andromeda FTDI port" on another(which damaged the 328 LEDRIng CPU).  BE sure you dont route i2C wires too close to interference from ESCs or Tx. As a rule never connect any i2c device without 1)a live gui check props off motors running 2) a handmaiden - corruption of oLED display is a sign of latent i2C errors.  3) Noobs should NOT connect any oLEDS or LEDRings until they have logged at least 5-10 flights tuning their craft first. 4) Disconnect any uBEC and use 5.0v from BEC on ESC.

Hardware mod for I2C  20June2014 -  If you are seeing i2c spikes in the GUI or the LED is corrupting characters (different from other 12c errors such as wrong code or non connect  or interfrence from poor wire routing) then doing this modification will remove spikes for those board getting it - works for PARIs v5r1 and v5r3 with Andromeda v3r3.  Take a small piece of copper trace wire 32 awg and solder across the 2 points in the circle.  If your not confident or you cannot solder, you can return the PARIS to us by post and we will solder it for you - easy mod if you have a fine point solding iron set to 320°C. The LEDRIng is a combination of hardware - sold here - and SOFTWARE pre-loaded and set up by us from an open source project developed to show MultiWiiCopter pilot the Modes he/she is in and correct functioning/calibration of the compass used for navigation etc as well as compliment the existing night flying lighting for high end Scarabs.  The LEDRing CPU underneath the Andromeda v3r3 Code was started by Alex.Dubus then fully developed at our request by Gary.Mosc Shikra his code files download is HERE if you want to customise it further - thanks to the open source coders like Gary Shikra that make these things possible.  

  • LEDRing hardware - 12 RGB LEDs
  • 5 pin connector for PARIS v5r3 Andromeda port - make sure to connect I2C twisted black wire to the CORRECT i2C port - if you plug the I2C plug into the FTDI port of the v3r3 you will permananently damage the Andromeda - the oLED and the LEDRing will be dead after that!
  • Take care with i2c devices - these devices share the main databus - you MUST check the integrity of all i2c data BEFORE FREEflight is attempted.  There should be no i2c errors in a correctly setup PARIS/Andromeda system.

 

Instructions

to use connect it to a PARIS v5r3 board - pre-coded with LEDRing code active - connect the 5 pin connector for PARIS HV port - make sure to connect with POWER OFF!!

Check the PARIS v5 for normal operation in the GUI and no I2C errors - if you see any I2C errors or ANY corruption of oLED data Do NOT FLY (with the I2C->Andromeda v3r3 connected and corrupted) - to solve i2C errors -> check your voltage is 5.0->5.1v max - and remove any uBEC - many uBECs output 5.4v !!  - designed to work with 5.0v BEC on ESCs.  check the wires are not passing too close to interference - check the pins - un-plug and re-plug the I2C lines to ensure the pins are gripping properly.

Instructions for oLED with PARIS v5

  1. To page through the screens for Whilst DISARMED - Forward Cyclic first - then hold & throw cyclic right to change pages - 1-2-3-4 then goes back to 1
  2. To Tune or change PIDS - DISARMED - Forward cyclic (elev) first - then Apply right YAW (rudd) for 1 sec - then release yaw and cyclic to centre - use back/forward cyclic to scoll up or down the list - use left/right cyclic to change the values
  3. To SAVE PIDs - whilst DISARMED - hold Left YAW first - then throw forward cyclic (ELEV)

Warning NOTE - NEVER use right yaw first !!! The Autopilot will arm !!

NAZA or WookM boards

for a PARIS Air ; or NAZA and Wookong you must use Andromeda v2r1 HERE

 

Also note that you cannot power the entire copter by USB (PC will limit USB power to 500ma 5v then cut power to the USBbus if amp rating is exceeded) - always remove the props - Tx on - Main LiPo 12v or 16v connected to the Voltair XT60 plug power in (yellow plug)   -  this will power the ESC uBECS - or the Switching uBEC if you have one - this will supply 1-4amps at 5v to the PARIS -  then lastly  - connect USB via FTDi -  to your PC or Mac.

COOLING - Andromeda proces heat from the LDOs and from the LED resistors - and is designed to be air-cooled in flight by airflow - Do not run the andromeda for long periods of time indoors with no cooling air to remove the heat - use a small usb fan or some kind of fan to cool it when attached to a PC for long programming or setup phases.  In normal use flying the andromeda will remain at 35°C - 40°C  - If placing the andromeda under a clear dome - be sure to  drill holes to allow cooling air to circulate inside the dome.  This applies to all domes. Cooling is important and requires AIRFLOW.

When connecting Andromeda to PARIS Led Strip gnd - the LED lights will only come on when the PARIS board is armed (or other event triggering the LEVEL trimming LED- such as if you tilt the PARIS board past 40°)
