DJI AceOne RC Helicopter AutoPilot IMU CPU

$3,199.00
Shipping Weight:
450.00 Grams

Product Description

AceOne is DJI's best RC Helicopter AutoPilot with GPS - for RC Pilots wanting very smooth and deliberate handling (Not for Multicopters - see WookongM/NAZA/PARIS).  This item is specific to Aerial Photographers* wishing to conduct TRex600 or Trex700 size Aerial camera platform operations with military GPS/INS precision level of hover (or for large scale RC Helicopter Pilots to fly on rails all the time) The CPU IMU features a Gyro/Acc/Baro/Compass/GPS combination and is suitable for pilots/Controllers who require near-automated levels of altitude/height lock control and GPS return to home function - it has very good altitude algorithms. AceOne offers superior Resolution to Wookong H and a high resistance to rotor motor vibration (Has the Cubic mass inertia design of the IMU) and has advanced navigation such as return to home GPS standard ; AceOne is upgradable to Waypoint Navigation and datalink (not included additional cost).  Perfect for commercial photographers* who dont have a lot flight time in RC and still want the smoothest possible standard of flight for photographic results.  AceOne flies like a proPilot even in the hands of a low time pilot.  Still requires the pilot have the skill to fly manually in the event it is required for safety.

Important AVIATION FACT: GPS is a navigation-aid which can reduce pilot workload and allow the pilot to conduct secondary duties like AP - Any Pilot must be competant in the FIRST INSTANCE to fly in both Attitude-LEVEL-mode(Atti) and also in Full manual mode - before ever activating GPS.  In the event of a GPS anomoly, or any issue the pilot abserves to be unusual - that pilot would/must immediately revert to ATTi mode - or even MANUAL mode if required to resume FULL control of the aircraft by direct pilot control.  GPS Return to home is not a primary means of control - the primary means of control is the PILOT's skill to infact fly the aircraft himself by Line-of-sight LOS back home if needed.  Never fly in GPS mode if you are a beginner or in fact dependant on an auto-pilot assist system like RTH or position-hold - You must have the skill to hover and return home in full manual if required to do so.  so in the initial phase of training and set-up FIRST become skilled at flying in MANUAL & ATTi modes - then you are ready for assist modes like GPS Nav, GPS position hold and GPS return to home RTH - within LOS.

Notes - Known issues/considerations/problems -  with DJI AceOne in Australia

GPS LOCK/MAG and drop out of GPS mode - March 2012 - there is currently an issue in AceOne software bug reported in southern Hemisphere countries - where it can randomly drop from GPS mode back to ATTi mode - giving either 1 red flash or three red flashes -  buyers are advised to consider this issue before buying in relation to your user expectation.  We are working with DJI China to resolve the bug - details will be posted here when the issue is resolved.

As the AU distributor for DJI aceOne we are the ones who have invited DJI out to work on the software on the ground in AU with us and find the bug which currently causes drop outs on some flight. Bearing in mind that the number of Sats in the sky changes minute by minute from 6-10 - We dont always see this bug on a well set up Multicopter but we do experience random drop outs of GPS (red flashes) in AU - by this I mean it will go from Zero red flashes - to three red flashes while hovering smoothly in the take off zone - in clear vision of 8 sats and on other flights (new battery but same day) it will complete the flight with no red flashes - So we pretty well know there is a bug, most likely in code related to Southern Hemisphere.

The feedback we need from Users please (or anybody else) is Cause or causal factors which either reduce or increase drop outs - this will help engineers zero in on the location of the bug in their code. They dont see this issue in CN and rely on user feedback to isolate it.

We at MultiWiiCopter.com recommend the following to minimise these drop outs from GPS Nav -> ATTi mode

  • a) optimal GPS antena distance from LiPo or ESc is ≥320mm - this keeps the GPS antenna out of the ESC EMI zone - Use Opto or heatsink shielded ESC to reduce EMI in the first instance
  • b) re-calibration of MAG before every flight
  • c) placing a ferrite ring on any servos leads and any FPV lines - 4-5 turns
  • d) allow extra 60 secs before take off - after red flashes extinguish
  • e) balance main and tail rotor blades 100% perfect - both statically and also check each balance dynamically - do a hover-power vibration check - for Ace one tail rotor and main rotor balancing is required so there is NO Gello in video taken in flight.
  • f) Mount GPS pod using gel-foam tape -  GPS antenna vibration isolation - to prevent resonance/vibration of the MAG in the GPS pod.

For AceOne users the Ace device has a full data log which can be saved out to PC and send it to us - this .dat file contains a lot of engineering data about the cause of the drop out - ie only 6 sats in view due to obstacles or CPU overflow or calibration issue etc...  For any flights where the GPS/MAG drops offline - please send as the Datalog files rom AceOne

Tips

  • Information on assembling a kit can be gained by looking at the photos on the product page itself. If you stuck on an advanced kit then first read the Quad Noobs guide
  • MultiCopters should hover at 50% throttle and fly for 10-15 mins.
  • Balance all props - vibration causes junk sensors data and gello in video - remove the SOURCE of the vibration by balancing
  • Use a quality prop balancer(Du-Bro 499 Tru-Spin Prop Balancer) statically; then run them individually to check they are centred true and the tipshave the same path; any vibration will reduce the effectiveness of the Wii gyro or anyother gyro.
  • Attach any IMU or sensors such as Sirius™, NAZA or WookM with vibration isolation gel - Board with sensors solder to directly are just cheapo clones - commercial quality IMU use isolation vibration materials
  • Keep your PROPS OFF - not installed - until you are fully conversant/understand in full the functions of your Tx in full including TRAV (end Points), the arm and disarm procedures - realise that for a noob skiping or out-of-order set-up steps or moving sticks, or even static - PROPS may start at anytime without warning. Never install props prior to calibration of the ESC and testing the gyro orientation, and arm/disarm testing of the board - YOU are responsible - make sure your actions and your Copter is safe - remove the prop -remove the risk.
  • Always maiden on default PIDs' - If the copter is not almost perfect on default PID's then DO NOT go straight to altering the PID's! Most of the problems you will face as a noob will be caused by making wild assumptions or following myths from forums - fly on default PIDs first - balance your props - make sure your ESC are calibrated and synchronized.
  • Dont be fooled by forum claims of kirby flashed ESCs - this software will melt your ESCs and give short flights - there is a lot of bad info on forums

Safety in Australian Skies

  • Keep more than 30m from persons, choose an empty sports field for your first flights
  • Do not fly near pets, houses or cars
  • Never fly within 3nm of an airfield or above 400ft
  • Never install your props until after the Multicopter is fully tested and 100% correct without props. Engines can start suddenly and without warning IF YOU FAIL to understand how they work or skip any steps.
  • Set your Tx/Rx binding to low throttle 1/4 position so that if the link is lost the copter will descend slowly.
  • Always keep your Copter in line of sight for one pilot ops - FPV is only legal in AU with a buddy on a buddybox - 2 person FPV is 100% legal using the buddybox system below 400'.  See CASA Part 101 Regs
  • RC Flying is a privilege - please enjoy it.  Don't show off and don't get over confident
  • Home movies are fine, but in Australia professional paid photography or videos from an RC aircraft requires CASA Part 101 compliance, including exams and approved ops manuals and pilot competency tests by CASA official which will cost several thousand up front.
